LOCATION - Lat 38°34'23", long 77°24'59" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Prince William County, VA, Hydrologic Unit 02070011, in Prince William Forest Park, 700 ft north of State Highway 619, 0.7 mi southeast of Belfair Crossroads, and 4.6 mi south of Independent Hill. Owner: National Park Service.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 490 ft. Upper casing diameter 6 in; top of first opening 68 ft, bottom of last opening 190 ft. Drilled observation water well, cased to 50 ft, open hole 50 to 490 ft.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 295 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Measuring point: TOP OF CASING, 2.0 ft above land-surface datum, Sep. 24, 1973 to present.
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 1973 to November 1975, December 1977 to current year. Unpublished records available prior to December 1977 in files of the USGS.
GAGE - Electronic data logger and pressure transducer, 15-minute record interval. Feb. 1, 1996 to Dec. 11, 2003, occasional measurement with chalked tape by USGS personnel. Aug. 30 1984 to Feb. 1, 1996, digital recorder, 60-minute record interval. Prior to Aug. 30, 1984, occasional measurement with chalked tape.
REMARKS - Well is located in Lunga Reservoir Formation of Cambrian age. Water level affected by magnitude 5.8 Mineral, VA earthquake on Aug. 23, 2011.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Highest water level recorded, -0.70 ft above land-surface datum, Mar. 22, 2019; lowest measured, 16.88 ft below land-surface datum, Oct. 25, 2002.
