LOCATION - Lat 48°25'29", long 121°34'02" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.19, T.34 N., R.10 E., Skagit County, WA, Hydrologic Unit 17110006, on left bank, 4.4 mi southeast of Rockport, 7.6 mi southeast of Sauk, 7.8 mi downstream from Suiattle River, and at mile 5.4.
DRAINAGE AREA - 714 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1286: 1929, 1937, 1939.

Revisions: Turbidity records for the period Feb. 12, 2020 to Nov. 13, 2020, were revised on Mar. 17, 2022, EDL data became available to fill a section of DCP truncated data during the peak of Oct. 16-17, 2020.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August to October 1910 (fragmentary gage heights), March 1911 to August 1912, July 1928 to current year. Published as "near Suiattle Crossing, near Sauk" 1910-12.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 266 ft above NGVD of 1929 (from river-profile survey) and 270.09 ft above NAVD of 1988 (USGS GNSS survey, July 21, 2021). Prior to Aug. 4, 1912, non-recording gages at several sites 1.0 mi downstream to 5.0 mi upstream from present site at various datums. July 24, 1928, to Sept. 16, 1929, non-recording gage at present site and datum.
REMARKS - No regulation. Small diversion for millpond at Darrington and for domestic use. U.S. Geological Survey satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 106,000 ft³/s, Oct. 21, 2003, gage height, 18.96 ft, from rating extended above 50,000 ft³/s; minimum discharge, 572 ft³/s Dec. 5, 1929, but may have been less during period of ice effect Jan. 10-27, 1930.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - TURBIDITY: September 2011 to September 2016 and August 1, 2018 to April 23, 2021. WATER TEMPERATURE: October 2016 to present.
INSTRUMENTATION - Turbidity sensor (FTS DTS-12) and a digital water temperature sensor interfaced with a Data Collection Platform/Electronic Datalogger, with 15-min recording interval, since September 2011. EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - Turbidity: Maximum, 1,340 FNU, Oct. 17, 2020. minimum, 0.5 FNU, Dec. 21, 2013. Water Temperature: Maximum, 20.2°C, Aug. 15, 2023; minimum, 0.0°C, several days during winter.
