LOCATION - Lat 40°03'31.19", long 106°18'18.64" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.12, T.1 N., R.80 W., Grand County, CO, Hydrologic Unit 14010001, On right bank 10 ft downstream from bridge on U. S. Highway 40, half a mile upstream from mouth, and a half a mile west of old Troublesome Post Office.
DRAINAGE AREA - 168 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1904 to October 1905, October 1921 to September 1924, July 1937 to September 1956, May 2021 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1313 and WSP 1733. Published as "at Troublesome" 1904-5. 
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 7,349 ft above NAVD of 1988, from digital map. Elevation of gage is 7,344.13 ft above NGVD of 1929, from topographic map. July 22, 1904 to Oct. 31, 1905, staff gage at site a quarter of a mile upstream at different datum. Apr. 26, 1922 to Sept. 30, 1924, staff gage at site a quarter of a mile upstream at datum 6.85 ft higher. July 1, 1937 to Oct. 23, 1942, staff gage. Oct. 24, 1942 to Sept. 27, 1949, water-stage recorder, at site a quarter of a mile upstream at datum 7.03 ft higher. Sept. 28, 1949 to Sept. 28, 1956, at site at location and datum noted in WSP 1733, p. 41. Prior to May 26, 2021, at site on left bank 60 ft upstream at different datum.
COOPERATION - This gage is part of the Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) network. Records for 1937-40, not previously published by Geological Survey, furnished by Bureau of Reclamation.
REMARKS - Water year 2021; records good except for flows above 132.7 ft³/s and below 7.89 ft³/s, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2022; records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2023; records fair except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Diversions for irrigation of about 4,000 acres above station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 1,230 ft³/s, July 23, 1945, gage height, 4.80 ft, from rating curve extended above 370 ft³/s, site and datum then in use.
