LOCATION - Lat 30°03'27", long 94°49'05" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Liberty County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12030203, at downstream side of downstream bridge on U.S. Highway 90 in Liberty, 450 ft downstream from Texas and New Orleans Railroad Co. bridge, and at mile 40.3.
DRAINAGE AREA - 17,468 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD -
May 24, 2018 to current year(continuous discharge record). Oct. 1938 to Sept. 1940 (gage heights, discharge measurements, and some records of daily discharge), Oct. 1940 to May 23, 2018 (daily mean discharges above 10,000 ft³/s). Gage-height records collected in this vicinity since 1903 are contained in reports of the National Weather Service. PERIOD OF RECORD, Water-Quality.-- CHEMICAL DATA: Oct. 1970 to Aug. 1972. BIOCHEMICAL DATA: Oct. 1970 to Aug. 1972. PESTICIDE DATA: May 1971 to Aug. 1972.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 2.22 ft below NGVD of 1929; unadjusted for land-surface subsidence, 3.18 ft below NAVD of 1988. Prior to Mar. 13, 1973, nonrecording gage at site at same datum. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - Since installation of gage in water year 1941, at least 10% of contributing drainage area has been regulated. Many diversions above station for municipal supplies, industrial uses, and irrigation. Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of May 8-11, 1922, reached a stage of 28.6 ft, present datum, from observations by the National Weather Service at nonrecording gage on railroad bridge upstream.
