  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2024
07311800 South Wichita River near Benjamin, TX
LOCATION - Lat 33°38'39", long 99°48'02" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Knox County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 11130205, on downstream side of bridge on State Highway 6, 2.0 mi downstream from Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway Co. bridge, 4.0 mi north of Benjamin, and 41.0 mi upstream from mouth. Site is approximately 57.2 river miles downstream from the S. Wichita River below Low-Flow-Dam gage near Guthrie, TX (07311783).
DRAINAGE AREA - 584 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - 1952-57 (miscellaneous low-flow measurements), Dec. 1959 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,334.23 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to Jan. 2, 1960, nonrecording gage at same site and datum. Satellite telemeter at station.
REMARKS - No known regulation. There are low flow diversions upstream on the South Wichita River at low flow dam near Guthrie (station 07311782) to Truscott Brine Lake. There were other minor diversions upstream from station during the year. No flow at times. Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage since at least 1903 occurred in Sept. 1919 (stage and discharge unknown), from information by local resident.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - CHEMICAL DATA: July 1949 to Mar. 1959, July 1966 to May 2007. July 2009 to June 8, 2012. BIOCHEMICAL DATA: Sept. 1966 to May 2007. July 2009 to June 8, 2012. PESTICIDE DATA: May 1997 to May 2007. July 2009 to Nov. 9, 2011. RADIOCHEMICAL DATA: Nov. 1980 to May 1981. SEDIMENT DATA: Aug. 1978.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Oct. 1967 to current year. WATER TEMPERATURE: Oct. 1967 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor since Aug. 1968.
REMARKS - Interruptions or periods of missing record may be due to instrument failure, no flow conditions, or data corrections exceeding allowable criteria, which were deleted. Other than no flow conditions, minimum and maximum extremes may have occurred during period of missing record. Mean monthly and annual concentrations and loads for selected chemical constituents have been computed for previous years using the daily records of specific conductance and a regression relation between each chemical constituent and specific conductance. The computation of the selected constituent loads might include estimated discharge or specific conductance data. Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 75,200 microsiemens/cm, May 2, 2022; minimum, 293 microsiemens/cm, Apr. 17, 2007. WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 41.4°C, June 25, 2012; minimum, -2.4°C,  January 21, 2022.
