05064500 RED RIVER OF THE NORTH AT HALSTAD, MN
LOCATION - Lat 47°21'07", long 96°50'36" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in sec.25, T.145 N., R.49 W., Traill County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020107, on upstream side of highway bridge, 0.5 mi west of Halstad, MN, 2.5 mi downstream from Wild Rice River, and at mile 375.2.
DRAINAGE AREA - 21,800 mi². including 3,800 mi² in closed basins.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1388: 1936, 1950. WSP 1728: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - DAILY DISCHARGE--April 1936 to June 1937 (no winter records), April 1942 to September 1960 (spring and summer months only), June 1961 to current year.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--October 2000 to current year.
GAGE -

Water stage recorder with wire-weight gage. Datum of the gage is 826.65 feet above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29) and 827.27 feet above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

Previous locations and datums are as follows:

March 15th, 1936, to June 30th, 1937; Wire-weight gage established on downstream side of highway bridge located at 96º50'41.60” W, 47º21’12.35” N (WGS84) at current datum.

April 13th, 1942, to September 30th, 1960; Wire-weight gage at original location at current datum.

May 22nd, 1961, to July 18th, 1961; Wire-weight gage at original location at current datum.

July 19th, 1961, to November 17th, 1999; Water-stage recorder with wire-weight gage located approximately 100 feet upstream of original gage location at current datum.

November 18th, 1999, to November 18th, 2002; Water-stage recorder with wire-weight gage on bridge located approximately 300 feet upstream of original gage location at current datum.

November 19th, 2002, to February 26th, 2006; Water-stage recorder with wire-weight gage located approximately 100 feet upstream of original gage location at current datum.

February 27th, 2006, to present; Water-stage recorder with wire-weight gage on bridge located about approximately 300 feet upstream of original gage location at current datum.
REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for the 2021 water year, when record was fair.  Estimated discharges are poor, unless otherwise noted.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in 1897 reached a stage of about 38.5 ft.
