03085002 Monongahela R at L&D2 Lower Pool at Braddock, PA
LOCATION - Lat 40°23'33", long 79°51'37" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Allegheny County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05020005, near right bank on river guide wall 300 ft downstream from dam at lock 2 at Braddock, 1,700 ft downstream from Turtle Creek, and 11.2 mi upstream of confluence with Allegheny River.  Water quality sonde located on left bank, left river guide wall of lock and dam at Lat 40 23' 22.25", Long 79 51' 31.75".
DRAINAGE AREA - 7,360 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2017 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry.  Datum of gage is 693.64 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (from benchmark).  Prior to February 20, 2024, the datum of gage was reported as 694.2 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.  
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.
REMARKS - Gage height record is considered good. 
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - October, 2013 to November, 2018 (monitor near right bank), June 2020 to current year for water temperature and dissolved oxygen (monitor near left bank).
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District and Sustainable Hydro, Braddock, LLC
INSTRUMENTATION - Continuous water-quality monitor measuring water temperature and dissolved oxygen at a 15-minute recording interval, interfaced with a data collection platform. Values reported by the monitor may not be representative of the entire river width.
REMARKS -

For water year 2014, records for water temperature and dissolved oxygen are rated good.

For water year 2015, records for water temperature are rated good, except for July 12 to July 21, which are rated fair, and July 22 to September 2, which are rated poor. Records for dissolved oxygen are rated good, except for January 15 to September 30, which are rated fair. Interruptions in the records were due to instrument malfunctions.

For water year 2016. records for water temperature and dissolved oxygen are rated good.

For water year 2017, records for water temperature and dissolved oxygen are rated good.

For water year 2018, records for water temperature, dissolved oxygen are rated good.

Beginning water year 2020, water quality records are no longer given qualitative ratings "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor". 

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD -

October, 2013 to November, 2018 (monitor near right bank).-WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 29.5°C, August 31, 2016; minimum, -0.2°C, several days in February and March, 2015 DISSOLVED OXYGEN: 15 mg/l. several days in 2018; minimum, 6.7 mg/l, July 16, 2014.

June 2020 to current year (monitor near left bank): Water Temperature.- WATER TEMPERATURE:     DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Maximum, 17.9 mg/l, January 27, 2022; minimum: 5.9 mg/l, Aug 25, 2023.
