02310673 CHASSAHOWITZKA RIVER AT DOG ISLAND NEAR CHASSAHOWITZKA, FL.
LOCATION - Lat 28°42'09.5", long 82°37'29.0" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 sec.32, T.20 S., R.17 E., Citrus County, FL, Hydrologic Unit 03100207, (Chassahowitzka Bay quadrangle), on southeast corner of a dock on Dog Island in the Chassahowitzka National Refuge, about 1.09 miles upstream from the mouth of the Chassahowitzka River. Gage is 0.6 miles downstream of Crawford Creek and 3.8 miles downstream from the head springs of the river.
DRAINAGE AREA - 118 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - Gage height for the period September 15, 2016 to June 7, 2017 were revised on February 2, 2018, based on changes in gage elevation found during levels.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 2005 to September 2010 (tidal high-high and low-low only); October 2010 to current year (maximum and minimum only).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
COOPERATION - This gage is monitored in cooperation with Southwest Florida Water Management District.
REMARKS - Gage height at this site is significantly affected by astronomical tides. The extremes for periods published previously as tidal high-high and low-low gage heights are equivalent to maximum and minimum gage heights.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum gage height recorded, 5.48 ft, Aug. 30, 2023, actual peak higher, most likely exceeded during Hurricane Idalia; minimum, 3.34 ft below NAVD 88, Jan. 3, 2008.

COOPERATION - This gage is monitored in cooperation with Southwest Florida Water Management District.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor consisting of specific conductance and temperature sensors. Top sensor is at a depth of 1.39 ft below water surface. Bottom sensor is at a depth of 2.89 ft below NAVD 88.
