02304000 HILLSBOROUGH RIVER AT FOWLER AVENUE NEAR TEMPLE TERRACE, FL
LOCATION - Lat 28°03'15", long 82°21'50" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 sec.13, T.28 S., R.19 E., Hillsborough County, FL, Hydrologic Unit 03100205, on the downstream from Cow House Creek, 2.5 miles north of bridge, Tampa, 0.2 mile downstream from Cypress, 4 miles west of Thonotosassa, and 20 miles upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 630 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1933 to December 1939 (published as "near Harney"); January 1961 to September 1998 (gage heights and miscellaneous discharge measurements only), incomplete (discontinued). May 2008 to April 2018 (gage heights only), May 2018 to current year. January 1961 to October 1979, published as Hillsborough River at Fowler Avenue near Tampa. Records of gage heights prior to October 1962 are available in files of the Geological Survey.
GAGE - Water-stage and recorder and velocity meter. Datum of gage is National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 and 0.90 ft. below North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to Dec. 1, 1960, nonrecording gage at present site at datum 19.14 ft higher; Dec. 1, 1960, to Apr. 16, 1976, nonrecording gage at present site and datum. Since Sep. 5, 1975, supplementary nonrecording gage at site 450 ft upstream at same datum.
COOPERATION - This gage is monitored in cooperation with Southwest Florida Water Management District and Hillsborough County.
REMARKS - Stage affected by withdrawal and gate operations at the Tampa Water Department dam during periods of low water.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage known, 34.67 ft, present datum Sep. 9, 1933, from floodmarks; discharge, 16,400 ft³/s from discharge measurement near crest.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 11,700 ft³/s, June 20, 1934; gage height, 32.56 ft, present datum.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - March 2016 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - An 8-inch tipping bucket rain gage 15-minute interval, installed on a 2 inch pipe approximately 38 ft above datum, attached to gage platform.
REMARKS - Collection, computation and publication of precipitation data do not necessarily conform to standards used by the National Weather Service.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Water years 1966 to September 1995. May 2008 to current year.
COOPERATION - This gage is monitored in cooperation with Southwest Florida Water Management District.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor consisting of specific conductance, temperature and dissolved oxygen sensors located approximately 17.7 ft above NGVD 29.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 514 microsiemens, May 31, 2023; minimum, 110 microsiemens, Aug. 7, 2015. TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 32.4°C, June 23, 2011; minimum, 7.2°C, Jan. 12, 2010. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Maximum, 19.0 mg/l, May 11, 2013; minimum, 0.2 mg/l, June 19, 2009, July 1, 2010.
