LOCATION - Lat 43°08'58", long 72°21'42" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Cheshire County, NH, Hydrologic Unit 01080104, on left bank, at High Street (NH 12A/123), 100 ft southeast of River Street and High Street (NH 12A/123) intersection at Alstead, 250 ft north of Main Street, High Street (NH 12A/123), and Mechanic Street(NH 12A/123) intersection, and 2.1 mi northeast of Whitcomb Road (NH 123), Old Cheshire Turnpike, and Alstead Center Road intersection at Drewsville.
DRAINAGE AREA - 74.6 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge records: September 2009 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 452.00 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
COOPERATION - New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and USGS Groundwater and Streamflow Information Program.
REMARKS - WATER YEARS 2014-23: Records good except those for estimated discharges, which are poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in October 2005 reached a stage of 25.4 ft, from floodmarks.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 10,500 ft³/s, July 29, 2021, gage height, 11.78 ft, from rating curve extended above 2,600 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow at gage height 11.78 ft; minimum discharge, 2.3 ft³/s, Sep 7, 2010.
