USGS 01649500 NORTHEAST BRANCH ANACOSTIA RIVER AT RIVERDALE, MD

LOCATION.--Lat 38°57'36.9", long 76°55'33.5", Prince George's County, MD, Hydrologic Unit 02070010,
   on left bank 100 feet downstream of bridge on Riverdale Road, 1.8 mi downstream from Indian Creek, 
   and 1.8 mi upstream from confluence with Northwest Branch.
DRAINAGE AREA.--72.8 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--August 1938 to current year.
REVISIONS HISTORY.--WDR MD-DE-75-1: 1972(M).
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 11.92 ft above North American 
   Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to June 12, 1942, nonrecording gage; June 12, 1942 to Mar. 22, 1966, 
   and Apr. 12, 1967 to Sept. 3, 1969, water-stage recorder, all at bridge at datum 14.00 ft above National
   Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Mar. 23, 1966 to Apr. 11, 1967, nonrecording gage 600 ft downstream from
   bridge at datum 9.25 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Sept. 3, 1969 to Jan. 12, 2012,
   recording gage on right bank at downstream side of bridge at present gage datum.
REMARKS.--U.S. Geological Survey satellite data-collection platform at station. Some regulation at low flow
   by sand and gravel plants upstream from station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 12,000 ft3/s, June 22, 1972, and June 26, 2006. 
   Maximum gage height, 12.93 ft, Oct. 16, 1942; minimum discharge, unknown.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--Flood of Aug. 23 or 24, 1933, reached a stage of about 15.5 ft
   at datum 14.00 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, from floodmarks, discharge; 10,500 ft3/s, 
   from rating curve extended above 3,000 ft3/s on basis of velocity-area study.
COOPERATION.--Funding for the operation of this station is provided by Prince George's County Department
   of Environmental Resources and the U.S. Geological Survey.
